The country’s shift toward a more sustainable development model is creating domestic demand for low-carbon technologies and opening up new opportunities for investment in non-extractive sectors — from renewable energy generation and industrial energy efficiency to waste processing infrastructure and water conservation.
According to the Report on Turkic Economies 2025: Green Economy Transition, Azerbaijan is classified among the countries with an emerging institutional framework for the green transition, alongside Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.
Key indicators:
→ Growing demand for low-carbon technologies: such technologies account for 4.9% of Azerbaijan’s total imports, while exports represent approximately 0.1%.
→ The share of clean energy sources increased from 8.1% in 2000 to 12% in 2024.
→ In terms of international sustainable development indicators, Azerbaijan ranks 64th in the SDG Index, with a score of 72.9 out of 100.
For investors targeting non-extractive sectors, these trends point to a pipeline of capital-intensive opportunities over the remainder of the decade, particularly in renewable energy generation, industrial energy efficiency, and waste processing.
